After talking to many assistants and rental houses, the ARRI Wireless Remote System (WRS) has been redesigned from the ground up to meet the needs of working professionals on the set even better. The result is a number of new components that make the WRS into the smallest and most flexible remote system on the market, while at the same time maintaining backwards compatibility with most of the existing components.

Building on the elegant modularity of the existing system, the new components provide even more flexibility and configuration options. Compatibility with the Wireless Remote Control, the ARRI Lens Data System and many film and video cameras makes the new Wireless Remote System into the most feature rich system available.

ERGONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS

In researching the ergonomic needs of the assistant holding a wireless remote control, we found the most important factors to be size and weight. Through advances in radio, battery and circuit board technology the new Wireless Main Unit (WMU-3) is half the size and half the weight of its predecessor, resulting in a small and lightweight item that can be held for long periods of time without fatigue.

Once we knew we could get the system smaller and lighter, we looked carefully at every detail and added many other improvements to make the WRS fast to use and easy to operate. As a result the new WRS is equipped with a battery capacity display, an illuminated frequency selector and safely recessed control buttons. The focus control has been outfitted with an adjustable index marker and the zoom knob has been repositioned to be just where the thumb expects it. And through the clean and elegant geometry of the modular components the system can be used equally well in either hand.
